Tehran (and to be honest, whole Iran) looks and smells like heaven🩷

Iranians are not particularly interested in histor

Iranians are not particularly interested in history (like probably any nation). The only time when museums or historical sights get busy is Fridays & Nowruz holidays.

And when it's a day off, there are all of a sudden crowds of people, they are shouting, playing music, laughing out loud. If it's in open air, some start an improvised picnic.

I realize that people are using every opportunity to pour out their joy, but sometimes it's quite inappropriate and doesn't let others appreciate and enjoy the sight itself.

I remember how we were visiting a beautiful spot in Hormoz Island and all we wanted just a few moments of silence with the view, but our driver thought that the whole situation lacks a bit of bandari music.

Why you need to see the statue?

➡️ This almost 6-meters-high statue was built over 1,700 years ago (3rd century AD)!

➡️ It still bears incredible details of the clothes, crown, hair and jewelry.

➡️ The statue fell and was damaged through all these years (hands are gone, unfortunately), but it was brought back on feet in 1957.

➡️ The valley houses a lot of other Sassanid-time artefacts like the ruins of the ancient city of Beyshapur as well as multiple reliefs depicting various Sassanid shahs.

➡️ This historical site is just 2 hours away from Shiraz and is a part of UNESCO world heritage (Sassanid Archaeological Landscape of Fars Region).

Haftsin this year is a reminder of many good frien

Haftsin this year is a reminder of many good friends and memories. A southern woven plate from our friends from Mashhad that also reminds us of our trip to the Persian Gulf this year, a painted egg from my mom, a Nowruz postcard from a dear friend, and coins gathered from our travels.

This year we decided to choose edible herbs, something that won't be wasted at the end of the holidays. But unfortunately, we started growing it too late, so I replaced it with a new plant we got as 'eydi' just before Nowruz.

Happy Nowruz!🪻 And keep your memories close, after all, it's one of those things that help us keep moving forward.

What to see in Arak: ✔️ The bazaar, of course

What to see in Arak:

✔️ The bazaar, of course! Built in the 19th century, it is in a very good shape and not as crowded as Tehran bazaar. A great opportunity to enjoy traditional Iranian architecture. You can easily wander around for a few hours.

✔️ Chahar-Fasl Hammam (Four-Season Bathhouse) is one of the biggest hammams in Iran with stunning tilework. Also, it`s probably the only bathhouse that was open to people of all religions (with a separate entrance though).

✔️ Museum of handicrafts and traditional arts. I haven`t been inside, but the mansion itself (built at the beginning of the 20th century) looks really nice and peaceful.

There are a few other museums, plus the historical center area looks really nice too and still has some old houses standing< so it is perfect for wandering around.

Arak can be a great few-hour stop on the way from Tehran to Isfahan (it`s 4 hours away from each of them) or from Tehran to Khuzestan Province (in case you want to check out some ancient sights in Shush or Shushtar).

Houses in Tehran don't live more than 20-30 years. They get demolished, and new ones, higher, more modern are being built instead. That's why construction goes on in Tehran constantly.

As soon as buildings are being built wall to wall, the construction of a new building can influence the ones beside it. Sometimes existing building can even get cracks on the walls and ceiling.

Finally, a construction reached us too. Luckily, not wall to wall to our house, but still pretty much close.
